SOLO PERFORMANCES

Offering programs that are very personal to me while showcasing the flute in different genres, using a variety of extended techniques. I’m thoughtful in my music selection, curating pieces that represent diverse composers and modern techniques.

I also enjoy collaborating with other musicians in chamber music groups. You can often find me performing with Avenue Winds, One Found Sound, Areon Flutes, and Nomad Session.

SOLO PERFORMANCE

Vernon Salon Series

This program was presented in February 2022, and it comes out of a time spent in reflection and hibernation. As a musician, I welcomed the time to refresh my view on performance and also struggled with my identity outside of being a performing musician. Each piece contributed, and is contributing, to the healing and growth I’ve experienced as not just a musician, but more simply, a human. The program features pieces by living composers Tan Mizi, Ahmed Al Abaca, and Allison Loggins-Hull among others.

This piece by Tan Mizi is “Flute and Drum Under the Setting Sun.” It imitates drum sounds on the flute using extended techniques such as key clicks and harmonics. In between the drumming, a traditional Chinese theme is woven throughout. After the COVID-19 vaccine came out, I gathered with a small group of people and this was the first work I performed after 1-1/2 years. Every time I play this piece, I remember why I love music and how important it is in my life.

Are you ready to make music together?
